Isaiah 59:15 - Revised Standard Version

15 Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.

And what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he slew him also.

who by a word make a man out to be an offender, and lay a snare for him who reproves in the gate, and with an empty plea turn aside him who is in the right.


The knaveries of the knave are evil; he devises wicked devices to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right.


“Hearken to me, you stubborn of heart, you who are far from deliverance:


Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and who came forth from the loins of Judah; who swear by the name of the Lord, and confess the God of Israel, but not in truth or right.


who acquit the guilty for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of his right!


No one enters suit justly, no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies, they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.


I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter; because, when I called, you did not answer, when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes, and chose what I did not delight in.”

They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks the truth.

When many days had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him,


As it is written, “For thy sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”


For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
