Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children. She had an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar;


And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, she looked with contempt on her mistress.


The angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit to her.”


And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is.


But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”


And the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground.


And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”


And there he came to a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”


He went in, and stood before his master, and Elisha said to him, “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant went nowhere.”


If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your place, for deference will make amends for great offenses.


And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfarer in the open square of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? and whence do you come?”


Now therefore let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is the Lord who has stirred you up against me, may he accept an offering; but if it is men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day that I should have no share in the heritage of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
