Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt; for I will there make of you a great nation.


Then Joseph settled his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.


Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens; and they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Ra-amses.


And Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old; we will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the Lord.”


And they moved on from Succoth, and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness.

But Moses said, “The people among whom I am number six hundred thousand on foot; and thou hast said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!’


These are the people of Israel as numbered by their fathers' houses; all in the camps who were numbered by their companies were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.


This was the number of the people of Israel, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.


They set out from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the passover the people of Israel went out triumphantly in the sight of all the Egyptians,


So the people of Israel set out from Rameses, and encamped at Succoth.
