We must all die, we are like water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; but God will not take away the life of him who devises means not to keep his banished one an outcast.


His sons come to honor, and he does not know it; they are brought low, and he perceives it not.


Yea, I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.


Let them be before the Lord continually; and may his memory be cut off from the earth!


For in death there is no remembrance of thee; in Sheol who can give thee praise?


But I, O Lord, cry to thee; in the morning my prayer comes before thee.


There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things yet to happen among those who come after.


For of the wise man as of the fool there is no enduring remembrance, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. How the wise man dies just like the fool!


It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting; for this is the end of all men, and the living will lay it to heart.


Then I saw the wicked buried; they used to go in and out of the holy place, and were praised in the city where they had done such things. This also is vanity.


Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.


But he who is joined with all the living has hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.


They are dead, they will not live; they are shades, they will not arise; to that end thou hast visited them with destruction and wiped out all remembrance of them.


For thou art our Father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not acknowledge us; thou, O Lord, art our Father, our Redeemer from of old is thy name.
