No one devoted, who is to be utterly destroyed from among men, shall be ransomed; he shall be put to death.


and took counsel together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.


Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the cock crowed.


And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”


There were more than forty who made this conspiracy.


And they went to the chief priests and elders, and said, “We have strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have killed Paul.


But do not yield to them; for more than forty of their men lie in ambush for him, having bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.”


And when it was disclosed to me that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, ordering his accusers also to state before you what they have against him.”


asking as a favor to have the man sent to Jerusalem, planning an ambush to kill him on the way.


When many days had passed, the Jews plotted to kill him,


but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night, to kill him;


If any one has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed. Our Lord, come!


on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brethren;


Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed be every one who hangs on a tree” —


by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved—so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God's wrath has come upon them at last!


Joshua laid an oath upon them at that time, saying, “Cursed before the Lord be the man that rises up and rebuilds this city, Jericho. “At the cost of his first-born shall he lay its foundation, and at the cost of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.”


But the people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things; for Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things; and the anger of the Lord burned against the people of Israel.


And he who is taken with the devoted things shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he has done a shameful thing in Israel.’ ”


And the men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul laid an oath on the people, saying, “Cursed be the man who eats food until it is evening and I am avenged on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.
