But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of fire.


“Brethren and fathers, hear the defense which I now make before you.”


But on the morrow, desiring to know the real reason why the Jews accused him, he unbound him, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and he brought Paul down and set him before them.


as the high priest and the whole council of elders bear me witness. From them I received letters to the brethren, and I journeyed to Damascus to take those also who were there and bring them in bonds to Jerusalem to be punished.


You therefore, along with the council, give notice now to the tribune to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before he comes near.”


And he said, “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more closely about him.


And desiring to know the charge on which they accused him, I brought him down to their council.


But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead I am on trial.”


So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward God and toward men.


And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.


I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.


For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world, and still more toward you, with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God.


We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.


I thank God whom I serve with a clear conscience, as did my fathers, when I remember you constantly in my prayers.


Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.


and keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
