43 He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord; yet the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as David his father had done.


But the high places were not taken away. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was wholly true to the Lord all his days.

Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.


The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the Lord.


Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; the people continued to sacrifice and burn incense on the high places.


But if you say to me, “We rely on the Lord our God,” is it not he whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, “You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem”?


And Asa cried to the Lord his God, “O Lord, there is none like thee to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.”


But the high places were not taken out of Israel. Nevertheless the heart of Asa was blameless all his days.


When Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Azariah the son of Oded, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the vestibule of the house of the Lord.


I will not set before my eyes anything that is base. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cleave to me.


But those who turn aside upon their crooked ways the Lord will lead away with evildoers! Peace be in Israel!


Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after false gods!


they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!’ ”


A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.


Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.
