5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will not come in here.” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.

And David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built the city round about from the Millo inward.


So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David; but David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.


And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing;


Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion.


And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, that is Jebus, where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.


David said, “Whoever shall smite the Jebusites first shall be chief and commander.” And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became chief.


And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David.


Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel, in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion.


There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David.


For the Lord has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation:


“I have set my king on Zion, my holy hill.”


beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King.


but he chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion, which he loves.


the Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.


And of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”; for the Most High himself will establish her.


Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!


as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.”


But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering,


Then I looked, and lo, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads.


But the man would not spend the night; he rose up and departed, and arrived opposite Jebus (that is, Jerusalem). He had with him a couple of saddled asses, and his concubine was with him.


And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”


Your servant has killed both lions and bears; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”
