The king said to him, “I’ve made you promise to tell the truth many times before. So don’t tell me anything but the truth in the name of the Lord.”


Ephraim will have nothing more to do with other gods. I will answer the prayers of my people. I will take good care of them. I will be like a healthy juniper tree to them. All the fruit they bear will come from me.”


Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah. You are the Son of the living God.”


But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I am commanding you in the name of the living God. May he judge you if you don’t tell the truth. Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”


The tempter came to him. He said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”


“Son of God, what do you want with us?” they shouted. “Have you come here to punish us before the time for us to be judged?”


“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!”


But Jesus remained silent. He gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?”


When people controlled by evil spirits saw him, they fell down in front of him. The spirits shouted, “You are the Son of God!”


When he saw Jesus a long way off, he ran to him. He fell on his knees in front of him.


This was because Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you evil spirit!”


He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. The Lord God will make him a king like his father David of long ago.


“Go away!” he said. “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!”


But love your enemies. Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then you will receive a lot in return. And you will be children of the Most High God. He is kind to people who are evil and are not thankful.


When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet. He shouted at the top of his voice, “Jesus, Son of the Most High God, what do you want with me? I beg you, don’t hurt me!”


But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. If you believe this, you will have life because you belong to him.


She followed Paul and the rest of us around. She shouted, “These men serve the Most High God. They are telling you how to be saved.”


Some Jews went around driving out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus to set free those who were controlled by demons. They said, “In Jesus’ name I command you to come out. He is the Jesus that Paul is preaching about.”


As they traveled along the road, they came to some water. The official said, “Look! Here is water! What can stop me from being baptized?”


The God who gives peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.


Those children have bodies made out of flesh and blood. So Jesus became human like them in order to die for them. By doing this, he could break the power of the devil. The devil is the one who rules over the kingdom of death.


Melchizedek was the king of Salem. He was the priest of God Most High. He met Abraham, who was returning from winning a battle over some kings. Melchizedek blessed him.


You believe there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that. And they tremble!


God did not spare angels when they sinned. Instead, he sent them to hell. He chained them up in dark prisons. He will keep them there until he judges them.


The person who does what is sinful belongs to the devil. That’s because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the devil’s work.


Some of the angels didn’t stay where they belonged. They didn’t keep their positions of authority. The Lord has kept those angels in darkness. They are held by chains that last forever. On judgment day, God will judge them.


So be joyful, you heavens! Be glad, all you who live there! But how terrible it will be for the earth and the sea! The devil has come down to you. He is very angry. He knows his time is short.”
