8 Never stop reading this Book of the Law. Day and night you must think about what it says. Make sure you do everything written in it. Then things will go well with you. And you will have great success.

One evening he went out to the field. He wanted to spend some time thinking. When he looked up, he saw camels approaching.


He tried to obey God during the days of Zechariah. Zechariah taught him to have respect for God. As long as Uzziah obeyed the Lord, God gave him success.


I have hidden your word in my heart so that I won’t sin against you.


I spend time thinking about your rules. I consider how you want me to live.


Lord, I really love your law! All day long I spend time thinking about it.


I know more than all my teachers do, because I spend time thinking about your covenant laws.


Lord, may these words of my mouth please you. And may these thoughts of my heart please you also. You are my Rock and my Redeemer.


I haven’t kept to myself that what you did for me was right. I have spoken about how faithful you were when you saved me. I haven’t hidden your love and your faithfulness from the whole community.


My son, do not forget my teaching. Keep my commands in your heart.


“Here is the covenant I will make with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit is on you and will not leave you. I have put my words in your mouth. They will never leave your mouth. And they will never leave the mouths of your children or their children after them. That will be true for all time to come,” says the Lord.


A good man says good things. These come from the good that is stored up inside him. An evil man says evil things. These come from the evil that is stored up inside him.


Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”


“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. Only those who do what my Father in heaven wants will enter.


“So then, everyone who hears my words and puts them into practice is like a wise man. He builds his house on the rock.


He replied, “Instead, blessed are those who hear God’s word and obey it.”


Now you know these things. So you will be blessed if you do them.


Anyone who has my commands and obeys them loves me. My Father will love the one who loves me. I too will love them. And I will show myself to them.”


Don’t let any evil talk come out of your mouths. Say only what will help to build others up and meet their needs. Then what you say will help those who listen.


We took their land. We gave it to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh as their share.


Be careful to obey the terms of this covenant. Then you will have success in everything you do.


No, the message isn’t far away at all. In fact, it’s really near you. It’s in your mouth and in your heart so that you can obey it.


That’s when all the Israelites come to appear in front of the Lord your God at the holy tent. It will be at the place he will choose. You must read this law to them.


Moses finished writing the words of this law in a book. He wrote them down from beginning to end.


Moses sent for all the Israelites. Here is what he said to them. Israel, listen to me. Here are the rules and laws I’m announcing to you today. Learn them well. Be sure to obey them.


But I wish they would always have respect for me in their hearts. I wish they would always obey all my commands. Then things would go well with them and their children forever.


So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you. Don’t turn away from his commands to the right or the left.


Let the message about Christ live among you like a rich treasure. Teach and correct one another wisely. Teach one another by singing psalms and hymns and songs from the Spirit. Sing to God with thanks in your hearts.


“Be strong and very brave. Make sure you obey the whole law my servant Moses gave you. Do not turn away from it to the right or the left. Then you will have success everywhere you go.


Then Joshua read all the words of the law out loud. He read the blessings and the curses. He read them just as they are written in the Book of the Law.


“Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will have the right to come to the tree of life. They will be allowed to go through the gates into the city.
