1 Samuel 15:29 - New International Reader's Version

Lord, you are great and powerful. Glory, majesty and beauty belong to you. Everything in heaven and on earth belongs to you. Lord, the kingdom belongs to you. You are honored as the one who rules over all.


The Lord gives strength to his people. The Lord blesses his people with peace.


How wonderful is God in his holy place! The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Give praise to God!


So when I was angry, I made a promise. I said, ‘They will never enjoy the rest I planned for them.’ ”


They will say, ‘The Lord is the only one who can save us. Only he can make us strong.’ ” All those who have been angry with the Lord will come to him. And they will be put to shame.


“I have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back. I will not feel sorry for you. I will do what I said I would do. You will be judged for your conduct and actions. I am the Lord,” announces the Lord and King.


The Lord will roar like a lion from Jerusalem. His voice will sound like thunder from Zion. The earth and the heavens will tremble. But the Lord will keep the people of Israel safe. He will be a place of safety for them.


God isn’t a mere human. He can’t lie. He isn’t a human being. He doesn’t change his mind. He speaks, and then he acts. He makes a promise, and then he keeps it.


But he said to me, “My grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I am very happy to brag about how weak I am. Then Christ’s power can rest on me.


God lives forever! You can run to him for safety. His powerful arms are always there to carry you. He will drive out your enemies to make room for you. He’ll say to you, ‘Destroy them!’


I can do all this by the power of Christ. He gives me strength.


Even if we are not faithful, he remains faithful. He must be true to himself.


That belief and understanding lead to the hope of eternal life. Before time began, God promised to give that life. And he does not lie.


When God made his promise, he gave his word. He did this so we would have good reason not to give up. Instead, we have run to take hold of the hope set before us. This hope is set before us in God’s promise. So God made his promise and gave his word. These two things can’t change. He couldn’t lie about them.


But Jesus became a priest with a promise. God said to him, “The Lord has given his word and made a promise. He will not change his mind. He has said, ‘You are a priest forever.’ ” (Psalm 110:4)
