Nehemiah 5:13 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised
13 I also shook the folds of my robe and said, ‘May God likewise shake from his house and property everyone who doesn’t keep this promise. May he be shaken out and have nothing! ’ The whole assembly said, ‘Amen,’ and they praised the Lord. Then the people did as they had promised.
13 Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
13 I shook out my lap and said, So may God shake out every man from his house and from [the exercise and fruits of] his labor who does not keep this promise! So may he be shaken out and emptied. And all the assembly said, Amen, and praised the Lord. And the people did according to this promise.
13 Also I shook out my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that performeth not this promise; even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the assembly said, Amen, and praised Jehovah. And the people did according to this promise.
13 I also shook out the fold of my robe, saying, “So may God shake out everyone from their house and property if they don’t keep this promise. So may they be shaken out and emptied!” The whole assembly said, “Amen,” and praised the LORD. And the people did as they had promised.
13 Moreover, I shook out my lap, and I said: "So may God shake out every man, who does not fulfill this word. From his house and from his labors, so may he be shaken out and become empty." And the entire multitude said, "Amen." And they praised God. Therefore, the people acted in accord with what was said.
Next, the king stood by the pillar , and made a covenant in the Lord’s presence to follow the Lord and to keep his commands, his decrees, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul in order to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book; all the people agreed to the covenant.
Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and with their hands lifted up all the people said, ‘Amen, Amen! ’ Then they knelt low and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
When they resisted and blasphemed, he shook out his clothes and told them, ‘Your blood is on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.’
