19 Seeing a lone fig tree by the road, he went up to it and found nothing on it except leaves. And he said to it, ‘May no fruit ever come from you again! ’ At once the fig tree withered.

He broke up the soil, cleared it of stones, and planted it with the finest vines. He built a tower in the middle of it and even dug out a winepress there. He expected  it to yield good grapes, but it yielded worthless grapes.


‘I will gather them and bring them to an end.’  , This is the  Lord’s declaration. ‘There will be no grapes on the vine, no figs on the fig tree, and even the leaf will wither. Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.’


When the disciples saw it, they were amazed and said, ‘How did the fig tree wither so quickly? ’


He said to it, ‘May no one ever eat fruit   from you again! ’   And his disciples  heard it.


Early  in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up.


The axe is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.’


Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes,   and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.


If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown aside   like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire,   and they are burned.


holding to the form of godliness but denying its power.  Avoid these people.


They claim to know God,  but they deny him by their works.  They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.


These people are dangerous reefs  at your love feasts  as they eat with you without reverence. They are shepherds who only look after themselves. They are waterless clouds carried along by winds;  trees in late autumn #– #fruitless, twice dead and uprooted.


Let the unrighteous go on in unrighteousness; let the filthy still be filthy; let the righteous go on in righteousness; let the holy still be holy.’
