Whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn’t.’


So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, it immediately threw the boy into convulsions. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.


Then it came out, shrieking and throwing him into terrible convulsions.  The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, ‘He’s dead.’


But Jesus rebuked him  and said, ‘Be silent and come out of him! ’   And throwing him down before them, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all.


For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was guarded, bound by chains and shackles, he would snap the restraints and be driven by the demon into deserted places.


Just then a man from the crowd cried out, ‘Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, because he’s my only child.


I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn’t.’


You are of your father the devil,   and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer   from the beginning   and does not stand in the truth,   because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature,   because he is a liar and the father of lies.


Be sober-minded,  be alert.  Your adversary the devil  is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.


They had as their king  the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon,  , and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.
