He was buried in his own tomb that he had made for himself in the city of David. They laid him out in a coffin that was full of spices and various mixtures of prepared ointments;  then they made a great fire in his honour.


Observe the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Whoever profanes it must be put to death. If anyone does work on it, that person must be cut off from his people.


When  the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene,  Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they could go and anoint him.


On  the first day of the week,  very early in the morning, they  came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared.


but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. Do not do any work #– #you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey, any of your livestock, or the resident foreigner who lives within your city gates, so that your male and female slaves may rest as you do.
