So the Egyptians assigned taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labour.  They built Pithom and Rameses as supply cities  for Pharaoh.


and every firstborn male in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the servant girl who is at the grindstones, as well as every firstborn of the livestock.


Years later,  after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people  and observed their forced labour.  He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his people.


‘If you see the donkey of someone who hates you lying helpless under its load, and you want to refrain from helping it, you must help with it.  ,


Take millstones and grind flour; remove your veil, strip off your skirt, bare your thigh, wade through the streams.


Isn’t this the fast I choose: To break the chains of wickedness, to untie the ropes of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to tear off every yoke?


The sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven,  , and they pour out drink offerings to other gods so that they provoke me to anger.


They tie up heavy loads that are hard to carry   and put them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves aren’t willing to lift a finger to move them.


The Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes. They brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles, and he was forced to grind grain in the prison.
