They said to me, ‘The remnant in the province,  who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned.’


Even if it is true that I have sinned, my mistake concerns only   me.


On that day seven women will seize one man,   saying, ‘We will eat our own bread and provide our own clothing. Just let us bear your name. Take away our disgrace.’


Do not rejoice over me,  my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will stand up; though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.


This is what they get for their pride, because they have taunted and acted arrogantly against the people of the  Lord of Armies.


The Lord will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of David’s house and the glory of Jerusalem’s residents may not be greater than that of Judah.


‘The Lord has done this for me. He has looked with favour in these days to take away my disgrace  among the people.’


His disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi,  who sinned, this man  or his parents,  that he was born blind? ’


‘You were born entirely in sin,’  they replied, ‘and are you trying to teach us? ’ Then they threw him out.


Her rival would taunt her severely just to provoke her, because the Lord had kept Hannah from conceiving.
