The poor person pleads, but the rich one answers roughly.


They say, “Keep to yourself, don’t come near me, for I am too holy for you! ” These practices are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that burns all day long.


Then Herod, with his soldiers, treated him with contempt, mocked  him, dressed him in bright clothing,  and sent him back to Pilate.


For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ: Though he was rich,  for your sake he became poor,  so that by his poverty you might become rich.


For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in,


Yet you have dishonoured the poor.  Don’t the rich oppress you and drag  you into court?


These people are discontented grumblers, living according to their desires;  their mouths utter arrogant words, flattering  people for their own advantage.
