1 Now Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying: ‘Jacob has taken all that was our father’s and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.’

And the man became very rich.  He had many flocks, female and male slaves, and camels and donkeys.


And Jacob saw from Laban’s face that his attitude towards him was not the same as before.


Then Laban answered Jacob, ‘The daughters are my daughters; the children, my children; and the flocks, my flocks! Everything you see is mine! But what can I do today for these daughters of mine or for the children they have borne?


Tell my father about all my glory in Egypt and about all you have seen. And bring my father here quickly.’

A tranquil heart is life to the body, but jealousy is rottenness to the bones.


Fury is cruel, and anger a flood, but who can withstand jealousy?


I saw that all labour and all skilful work is due to one person’s jealousy of another.  This too is futile and a pursuit of the wind.  ,

he is conceited and understands nothing, but has an unhealthy interest in disputes and arguments over words.  From these come envy,  quarrelling,  slander,  evil suspicions,


For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved by various passions  and pleasures,  living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another.


For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory   like a flower of the grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls,
