‘When a fire gets out of control, spreads to thorn bushes, and consumes piles of cut corn, standing corn, or a field, the one who started the fire must make full restitution for what was burned.


Like the shame of a thief when he is caught, so the house of Israel has been put to shame. They, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets


‘Do not oppress  your neighbour or rob  him. The wages due a hired worker  must not remain with you until morning.


‘When someone sins and offends the Lord by deceiving  his neighbour in regard to a deposit,  a security,  or a robbery;  or defrauds  his neighbour;


or anything else about which he swore falsely. He will make full restitution for it and add a fifth of its value to it.  He is to pay it to its owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt.


He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief.  He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.


no thieves,  greedy  people, drunkards, verbally abusive people,  or swindlers  will inherit God’s kingdom.
