It is a trap for anyone to dedicate something rashly and later to reconsider his vows.


Or if someone swears rashly  to do what is good or evil #– #concerning anything a person may speak rashly in an oath #– #without being aware of it, but later recognises it, he incurs guilt in such an instance.


but as for me, I will sacrifice  to you with a voice of thanksgiving. I will fulfil  what I have vowed. Salvation  belongs to the  Lord.


For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should desire instruction from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the Lord of Armies.


Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God.’


‘If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to keep it, because he will require it of you, and it will be counted against you as sin.


But if you refrain from making a vow, it will not be counted against you as sin.


When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, ‘No! Not my daughter! You have devastated me! You have brought great misery on me.  I have given my word to the Lord and cannot take it back.’
