‘Blessed be the Lord! He has given rest  to his people Israel according to all he has said. Not one of all the good promises he made through his servant Moses has failed.


For David said, ‘The Lord God of Israel has given rest to his people,  and he has come to stay in Jerusalem for ever.


This is what the Lord says: The people who survived the sword found favour in the wilderness. When Israel went to find rest,


Get up and leave, for this is not your place of rest because defilement  brings destruction – a grievous destruction!


‘You are not to do as we are doing here today; everyone is doing whatever seems right in his own sight.

‘The Lord was angry with me on your account.  He swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land  the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.


So Joshua took the entire land, in keeping with all that the Lord had told Moses. Joshua then gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to the land allotted to each tribe. After this, the land had rest from war.
