After two years had passed, Porcius Festus  succeeded Felix, and because Felix wanted to do the Jews a favour,  he left Paul in prison.


I found that he had not done anything deserving of death, but when he himself appealed to the Emperor, I decided to send him.


After they examined me, they wanted to release me, since there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.


Because the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar;  even though I had no charge to bring against my people.


But the Lord said to him, ‘Go, for this man is my chosen instrument   to take my name to Gentiles,   kings, and Israelites.
