She also said, ‘Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son for him  in his old age.’


She got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while your servant was asleep. She laid him in her arms, and she put her dead son in my arms.


‘No,’ the other woman said. ‘My son is the living one; your son is the dead one.’ The first woman said, ‘No, your son is the dead one; my son is the living one.’ So they argued before the king.


Her husband, Elkanah, replied, ‘Do what you think is best,  and stay here until you’ve weaned him. May the Lord confirm your  word.’  So Hannah stayed there and nursed her son until she weaned him.
