who are devouring widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers. These shall receive greater judgment.”
But they did not understand this saying, and it was veiled from them so that they did not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask Him about this saying.
But יהושע said to him, “Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us.”
What then? Are we better than they? Not at all, for we have previously accused both Yehuḏim and Greeks that they are all under sin.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under Torah but under favour? Let it not be!
What then do I say? That an idol is of any value? Or that which is slaughtered to idols is of any value?
What then is it? I shall pray with the spirit, and I shall also pray with the understanding. I shall sing with the spirit, and I shall also sing with the understanding.
Whether, then, it was I or they, so we proclaimed and so you believed.
