He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, יהושע spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Shim‛on? From whom do the sovereigns of the earth take toll or tax, from their own sons or from the strangers?”
“For the reign of the heavens is like a man, a householder who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
And they answered יהושע and said, “We do not know.” And He said to them, “Neither do I say to you by what authority I do these.
“And he answering, said, ‘I do not wish to,’ but afterwards he repented and went.
“Hear another parable: There was a certain man, a householder who planted a vineyard and placed a hedge around it, and dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. And he leased it to farmers and went abroad.
Then say to us, what do You think? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?
as a man going abroad, having left his house and given authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Shiloaḥ fell and killed them, do you think that they were greater offenders than all other men who dwelt in Yerushalayim?”
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Master, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Master.
