And it came to be, when the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl read the letter, that he tore his garments and said, “Am I Elohim, to kill and keep alive, that this man sends a man to me to recover him of his leprosy? For consider now, and see how he is seeking an occasion with me!”


Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to trap Him in His words.


But knowing their wickedness, יהושע said, “Why do you try Me, you hypocrites?


and one of them, one learned in the Torah, did question, trying Him, and saying,


And they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to catch Him in a word.


And they were watching Him, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so as to accuse Him.


And as He was saying this to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose Him fiercely, and to draw Him out on many subjects,


And keeping a close watch on Him, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, to catch Him in a word, in order to deliver Him to the rule and to the authority of the governor.


And they were unable to catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people, and marvelling at His answer, they were silent.


Therefore, do not let them persuade you, for more than forty of them lie in wait for him, men who have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor to drink until they have killed him. And now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.
