And this is the purpose of the compulsory labour which Sovereign Shelomoh raised, to build the House of יהוה, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Yerushalayim, and Ḥatsor, and Meḡiddo, and Gezer –


Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim had gone up and taken Gezer and burned it with fire, and had killed the Kena‛anites who dwelt in the city, and had given it as a payment for the bride to his daughter, Shelomoh’s wife –


Then Horam sovereign of Gezer came up to help Laḵish. And Yehoshua struck him and his people, until he left him no survivor.


And they did not drive out the Kena‛anites who dwelt in Gezer, so the Kena‛anites dwell among the Ephrayimites to this day and have become compulsory labour.


And it came to be, when Yisra’ĕl was strong, that they put the Kena‛anites into compulsory labour, but did not completely drive them out.


Neither did Zeḇulun drive out the inhabitants of Qitron or the inhabitants of Nahalol, so the Kena‛anites dwelt in their midst, and became compulsory labour.
