And Aḇraham answered and said, “Look, please, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to יהוה,
And he said, “Let not יהוה be displeased, and let me speak: Suppose there are found thirty?” And He said, “I would not do it if I find thirty there.”
And he said, “Let not יהוה be displeased, and let me speak only this time: Suppose there are found ten?” And He said, “I would not destroy it for the sake of ten.”
And Ya‛aqoḇ made a vow, saying, “Seeing Elohim is with me, and has kept me in this way that I am going, and has given me bread to eat and a garment to put on –
then this stone which I have set as a standing column shall be Elohim’s house, and of all that You give me, I shall certainly give a tenth to You.”
But our Elohim is in the heavens; Whatever pleased Him, He has done.
When words are many, Transgression is not absent, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
It is a snare for a man to say rashly, “It is set-apart,” And only later to reconsider his vows.
Words of a wise man’s mouth show favour, but the lips of a fool swallow him up;
