Him who secretly slanders his neighbour I cut off; I do not tolerate one Who has a haughty look and a proud heart.
He has not slandered with his tongue, He has not done evil to his neighbour, Nor lifted up a reproach against his friend;
You have put loved one and companion far from me, Darkness is my close friend!
Such are the ways of everyone greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners.
Trust no friend, rely on no companion, guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom.
Woe to them! Because they have gone in the way of Qayin, and gave themselves to the delusion of Bil‛am for a reward, and perished in the rebellion of Qoraḥ.
