“Do you know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young? Or do you observe when the deer gives birth?


The high hills are for wild goats; Rocks a refuge for rock badgers.


Their judges have been thrown down By the sides of the rock, But they have heard my words, For they have been pleasant.

And those seeking my life lay a snare; And those seeking my evil have spoken of destruction, And utter deceit all day long.


Sha’ul chose for himself three thousand men of Yisra’ĕl. And two thousand were with Sha’ul in Miḵmash and in the mountains of Bĕyth Ěl, and a thousand were with Yonathan in Giḇ‛ah of Binyamin. And the rest of the people he sent away, each to his tent.


So Sha’ul turned back from pursuing Dawiḏ, and went against the Philistines. Therefore they called that place Sela Hammaḥleqoth.


And Sha’ul rose up and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, and with him three thousand chosen men of Yisra’ĕl, to seek Dawiḏ in the Wilderness of Ziph.
