“See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and sought refuge in his wealth!”


Put no confidence in extortion, set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


A rich man's wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.


“Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, O rock of the plain, says the Lord; you who say, ‘Who shall come down against us, or who shall enter our habitations?’


Return, O faithless children, says the Lord; for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.


How long will you waver, O faithless daughter? For the Lord has created a new thing on the earth: a woman protects a man.”


For, because you trusted in your strongholds and your treasures, you also shall be taken; and Chemosh shall go forth into exile, with his priests and his princes.


The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle's, I will bring you down from there, says the Lord.

Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;


Like a stubborn heifer, Israel is stubborn; can the Lord now feed them like a lamb in a broad pasture?


As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy.


As she glorified herself and played the wanton, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning. Since in her heart she says, ‘A queen I sit, I am no widow, mourning I shall never see,’
