So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouts, the sound of the ram’s horn, trumpets, and cymbals, and the playing of harps and lyres.


The locusts went up over the entire land of Egypt and settled on the whole territory of Egypt. Never before had there been such a large number of locusts, and there never will be again.


Wail! For the day of the  Lord is near. It will come as destruction from the Almighty.


Look, the day  of the  Lord is coming – cruel, with fury and burning anger – to make the earth a desolation and to destroy its sinners.


For a day belonging to the  Lord of Armies is coming against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up #– #it will be humbled –


My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the  Lord’s declaration. I will look favourably on this kind of person: one who is humble,  submissive   in spirit, and trembles at my word.


You who tremble at his word, hear the word of the  Lord: ‘Your brothers who hate and exclude you for my name’s sake have said, “Let the Lord be glorified so that we can see your joy! ” But they will be put to shame.’


‘When you tell these people all these things, they will say to you, “Why has the Lord declared all this terrible disaster against us?  What is our iniquity? What is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God? ”


Food won’t be provided for the mourner  to comfort him because of the dead. A consoling drink won’t be given him for the loss of his father or mother.


Declare in Judah, proclaim in Jerusalem, and say, Blow the ram’s horn throughout the land. Cry out loudly and say, ‘Assemble yourselves, and let’s flee to the fortified cities.’


Do you not fear me? This is the  Lord’s declaration. Do you not tremble before me, the one who set the sand as the boundary of the sea, an enduring barrier that it cannot cross? The waves surge, but they cannot prevail. They roar, but cannot pass over it.


Therefore say to them, “This is what the Lord God says: I will put a stop to this proverb, and they will not use it again in Israel.”  But say to them, “The days have arrived,  as well as the fulfilment of every vision.


‘Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is against my people. It is against all the princes of Israel! They are given over to the sword with my people. Therefore strike your thigh in grief.


For a day is near; a day belonging to the  Lord is near. It will be a day of clouds, a time of doom  for the nations.


And suppose he sees the sword coming against the land and blows his ram’s horn  to warn the people.


However, suppose the watchman sees the sword coming but doesn’t blow the ram’s horn, so that the people aren’t warned, and the sword comes and takes away their lives. Then they have been taken away because of their iniquity, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.”


Here is the day! Here it comes! Doom is on its way. The rod has blossomed; arrogance has bloomed.


The time has come; the day has arrived. Let the buyer not rejoice and the seller not mourn, for wrath is on her whole crowd.


I issue a decree  that in all my royal dominion, people must tremble in fear before the God of Daniel: For he is the living God, and he endures for ever; his kingdom will never be destroyed, and his dominion has no end.


Lord, in keeping with all your righteous acts, may your anger and wrath  turn away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain;  for because of our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors, Jerusalem and your people have become an object of ridicule to all those around us.


While I was speaking, praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel,  and presenting my petition before the Lord my God concerning the holy mountain of my God #– #

Put the ram’s horn to your mouth! One like an eagle comes against the house of the  Lord, because they transgress my covenant and rebel against my law.


Woe because of that day! For the day of the  Lord is near and will come as devastation from the Almighty.


The Lord makes his voice heard in the presence of his army. His camp is very large; those who carry out his command are powerful. Indeed, the day of the Lord is terrible and dreadful   – who can endure it?


Blow the ram’s horn in Zion! Announce a sacred fast; proclaim a solemn assembly.


The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the great and terrible day of the  Lord  comes.


Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the  Lord is near in the valley of decision.


Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain. Jerusalem will be holy, and foreigners will never overrun it again.


If a ram’s horn  is blown in a city, aren’t people afraid? If a disaster  occurs in a city, hasn’t the Lord done it?


Woe to you who long for the day of the  Lord! What will the day of the  Lord be for you? It will be darkness and not light.


He asked me, ‘What do you see, Amos? ’ I replied, ‘A basket of summer fruit.’  , The Lord said to me, ‘The end has come for my people Israel;  I will no longer spare them.


For the day of the  Lord   is near, against all the nations. As you have done,  it will be done to you; what you deserve will return on your own head.


The great day of the  Lord is near, near and rapidly approaching. Listen, the day of the  Lord  – then the warrior’s cry is bitter.

Look, a day belonging to the Lord is coming  when the plunder taken from you will be divided in your presence.


The Lord says this: ‘I will return to Zion and live in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City;  the mountain of the Lord of Armies will be called the Holy Mountain.’


‘For look, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and everyone who commits wickedness will become stubble. The coming day will consume them,’ says the Lord of Armies, ‘not leaving them root or branches.


‘Make two trumpets of hammered silver to summon the community  and have the camps set out.


When both are sounded in long blasts, the entire community is to gather before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.


In fact, if the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will prepare for battle?


Therefore, my dear friends,  just as you have always obeyed,  so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.


For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord  will come just like a thief  in the night.


You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.


The end of all things is near;  therefore, be alert and sober-minded  for prayer.
