Genesis 26:7 - The Passion Translation

7 The men of the land noticed Rebekah’s beauty and asked Isaac about her. “Oh, she’s just my sister,” he replied. Rebekah was indeed very beautiful, and he was afraid to tell them, “She’s my wife,” for he thought that the men of the land would kill him and take his wife.

When he drew near to Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “Look, I’m worried because I know that you are a beautiful, gorgeous woman.


Just tell them you are my sister so that they will treat me well for your sake and spare my life.”


When Pharaoh’s dignitaries spotted her, they went to Pharaoh and raved about her beauty. Then they took Sarai into the palace and made her part of Pharaoh’s harem.


Abraham answered, “Because I thought, ‘There’s no one here that fears God. They will kill me to get to my wife.’


Now Abraham had said about his wife Sarah, “She’s my sister.” So Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent for her and took her into his harem.


Didn’t the man tell me, ‘She is my sister’? And didn’t she agree and say, ‘Yes, he’s my brother’? I’ve done this with clean hands and a clear conscience.”
