UK Schools eliminate ‘AD’ and ‘BC’ to avoid offend non-Christians

The terms ‘BC’ and ‘AD’ (in Spanish A.C and D.C) are being eliminated in a growing number of British schools in religious education in order not to offend non-Christians.

These traditional terms BC, Before Christ, and AD, Anno Domini (meaning ‘the Year of the Lord’), are being left aside to use BCE  (Before the Common Era) and CE (Common Era).

‘It’s not about whether a form is correct or not, but what is the most used term,’ said the British Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

While Chris McGovern, president of the Campaign for Real Education, claimed that the elimination of BC and AD ‘is a capitulation to political correctness.’

‘It is a great shame,’ said the former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey

Lord Carey remarked that ‘I have never met a Jewish or Muslim leader who is offended by the Gregorian calendar.’

‘Nobody cares if BC and AD are used in regular schools,’ said a spokesman for the British Jewish Chamber of Deputies.
