Something unbelievable has gone viral on social media, and it is the modern-day update about the Biblical story that makes reference about Jonah, a man who was swallowed by a whale.
Rainer Schimpf, a South African diver, was in the water with a swirling school of sardines surrounded by predators, when something unexpected happened; he was caught by a whale.
“It got dark. I felt some pressure on my hip, and I instantly knew a whale had grabbed me,” he told 7 News.
“There is no time for fear in a situation like that; you have to use your instinct.”
In an interview with Today Show he said “I held my breath,” expecting the whale to pull him down. “I mean there was no other thing I could do,” he added. “I mean, you can’t fight a 15-ton animal.”
“The next moment I felt the whale was turning either way, and the pressure was released and I was washed out of the mouth,” Mr Schimpf told 7 News.
“I came back up onto the surface where surely I wasn’t looking too clever.”
Fortunately, the whale spit Schimpf out within a couple of seconds. Photographer Heinz Toperczer, who was working aboard a nearby boat, captured an amazing photo of Schimpf halfway inside the whale’s mouth above the waterline, with only the diver’s lower body dangling out.
