Argentine President Javier Milei opened the regular session of the National Congress on March 1, delivering a nationally broadcasted speech outlining his administration’s goals for 2024.
In his address, he criticized the Argentine state as dysfunctional and bankrupt, alleging that it leads to waste and reduced welfare for the population.
Milei acknowledged that he may not possess political power, but asserted that he has the conviction and support of millions of Argentines seeking genuine change.
He emphasized the significance of Hanukkah and cited Sacred Scriptures to underscore that victory and war do not rely on the number of soldiers, but on higher forces, eliciting applause from legislators and officials at the Legislative Assembly.
The president announced specific measures such as the elimination of privileged pensions for former officials and the requirement for free elections in labor unions. He stressed that while he does not seek confrontation, he is prepared to confront it if necessary. He urged governors, political leaders, and lawmakers to collaborate in his mission for change, proposing a series of political, labor, fiscal, and trade reforms.
Additionally, he extended an invitation to governors, former presidents, and political leaders to sign a new social contract called the “May Pact” on May 25 in the province of Córdoba. This pact will establish the 10 principles of the new economic order in Argentina, encompassing reforms in various areas to achieve profound change in the country.
President Milei seeks to position Argentina as a reference for the West through 10 guidelines, including defending private property, fiscal balance, reducing public spending, tax and labor reforms, and opening to international trade. He also aims for reforms in federal tax revenue sharing, natural resource exploitation, the country’s pension and political system.
“We have not yet seen all the effects of the disaster we inherited, but we are convinced that we are on the right path, because for the first time in history, we are tackling the problem at its source: the fiscal deficit, not just its symptoms. For no matter how dark the night, the sun always rises in the morning,” he conveyed to the audience, appealing for patience and trust in the outcomes.
He added, “King Solomon asked God for wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong, courage to choose it, and temperance to stay on that path. I seek the same for myself and everyone present here.”
“May God bless the Argentines, and may the forces of heaven be with us. Thank you very much…,” he concluded his speech.
Notably, Milei has previously expressed sympathy for and even practiced the Christian faith and Judaism, as evident during his visit to Israel, where he was moved to tears at the Western Wall.
As the head of a nation, it is a prudent decision to seek wisdom from God to govern properly, a factor that leaders around the world should always bear in mind.
