Christian School is told not to teach Bible texts for being “offensive”

Cornerstone Christian Academy in Alberta, Canada, was ordered to stop teaching “offensive” Bible verses

In Alberta, Canada, The Cornerstone Christian Academy and the Battle River School Division are at loggerheads over a Bible passage the school board considers offensive and interprets as indicating homosexuality is a sin.

The school was asked to remove 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 from its student handbook.

“Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

“We asked them to not include it, but perhaps use a different piece of Scripture,” said Diane Hutchinson. “There is a lot of love in the word of God. We were concerned about that specific piece of Scripture, given today’s legislation and sensitive environment.”

The academy removed the Scripture as requested, but became concerned when Board Chair Laurie Skori advised school officials that “any Scripture that could be considered offensive to particular individuals should not be read or studied in school.”
