A new mass plan for evangelism will be carried out in Qatar, site of the 2022 World Cup, in which Bibles will be distributed in 14 different languages.
According to the Bible Society, tourists of different nationalities who are going to enjoy the World Cup in Qatar will be given New Testaments and the Gospel of John; In addition, this also includes immigrant workers.
Some eight stadiums have already been built for the Cup and also Qatar Rail, there was an expansion of the Hamad International Airport, and the new city of Luisail, all hands on workers who are said to have been exploited under a precarious living situation for everyone. , which became a complaint for different human rights groups.
Newspapers such as The Times and Daily Mail assure that the immigrants from Nepal, Bangladesh, India and the Philippines worked for months on the construction of the stadiums under intense heat and very bad conditions, in addition to facing 18 hours of work, low wages that they came to €1 per hour; They say there were injuries and deaths.
And that is why the Bible Society has decided to bring hope in the midst of the biggest football party in the world, and to make more churches continue to be planted in the country; the organization supports local churches with Bibles for workers and training courses for pastors.
“Our mandate as a Bible Society is to light hope, care, and love in the hearts of thousands,’ said Dr Hrayr Jebejian, the General Secretary of Bible Society in the Gulf,” who called the World Cup a great opportunity to preach the Gospel.
“The plan is to reach migrant workers and World Cup international visitors through the distribution of the Gospel of John and the New Testament in Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Malayalam, Nepali, Portuguese, Sinhala, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil and Telugu,” Hrayr explained.
“This is a tremendous chance for the Bible Society in the Gulf to reach lonely, depressed, and troubled people – workers and visitors – with the comforting and life-giving word of God,” added Hrayr, in addition to detailing that copies of the Scriptures have already been sent from England to Qatar.
This country is precisely one of those that is on the List of Countries known for Christian persecution, taking the 18th position in the rank.
“According to the 2022 World Watch List, Qatar rose 11 spots on the list, making it the 18th most dangerous country to be a Christian.cause Islamic oppression is already very high in Christians,” Open Doors
Although Islam is the main belief in the country and is deeply rooted in its rulers being extremely radical with its statutes, studies and surveys estimate that 1 in 10 people is Christian in Qatar, because the majority of its inhabitants are immigrants from other countries. Asia, where there is a great expansion of the Gospel.
Often foreigners have more permission to proclaim their faith in Christ within Qatar, even so they can be pressured by the authorities, due to the monitoring of the churches and limitations they suffer in certain areas.
However, despite the intensity faced by believers in that place, they believe in God and His help to continue proclaiming the Gospel, this time they plan to make a big move by sharing the good news during the mega event.
“We’re expecting a big move of the Holy Spirit during the World Cup. Please pray for us,” says a very optimistic elder of one of the protestant churches.
