14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: you have some people there who are clinging to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to set a trap and a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, [to entice them] to eat food that had been sacrificed to idols and to practice lewdness [giving themselves up to sexual vice]. And I will say: Make a way, give free passage. Turn out of the path. Take away the stumbling-blocks out of the way of my people.


Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will bring destruction upon this people, by which fathers and sons together shall fall, neighbor and kinsman shall perish.


Moreover, if the just man shall turn away from his justice and shall commit iniquity: I will lay a stumbling-block before him. He shall die, because thou hast not given him warning. He shall die in his sin and his justices which he hath done shall not be remembered. But I will require his blood at thy hand.


Because they ministered to them before their idols, and were a stumblingblock of iniquity to the house of Israel: therefore have I lifted up my hand against them, saith the Lord God, and they shall bear their iniquity:


But yet going to my people, I will give thee counsel, what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.


Are not these they, that deceived the children of Israel, by the counsel of Balaam, and made you transgress against the Lord by the sin of Phogor, for which also the people was punished?


And their kings, Evi, and Recem, and Sur, and Hur, and Rebe, five princes of the nation: Balaam also the son of Beor, they killed with the sword.


Woe to the world because of scandals. For it must needs be that scandals come: but nevertheless woe to that man by whom the scandal cometh.


That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well.


But as touching the Gentiles that believe, we have written, decreeing that they should only refrain themselves from that which has been offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangles, and from fornication.


And David saith: Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompense unto them.


Let us not therefore judge one another any more. But judge this rather, that you put not a stumblingblock or a scandal in your brother's way.


It is good not to eat flesh, and not to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother is offended, or scandalized, or made weak.


Why so? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were of works. For they stumbled at the stumblingstone.


But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumblingblock, and unto the Gentiles foolishness:


But for fear of fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.


Marriage honourable in all, and the bed undefiled. For fornicators and adulterers God will judge.


And Balac son of Sephor king of Moab arose and fought against Israel. And he sent and called for Balaam son of Beor, to curse you.


And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of scandal, to them who stumble at the word, neither do believe, whereunto also they are set.


Leaving the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity,


Woe unto them, for they have gone in the way of Cain: and after the error of Balaam they have for reward poured out themselves, and have perished in the contradiction of Core.


But I have against thee a few things: because thou sufferest the woman Jezabel, who calleth herself a prophetess, to teach, and to seduce my servants, to commit fornication, and to eat of things sacrificed to idols.


But I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first charity.


But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.


Without are dogs, and sorcerers, and unchaste, and murderers, and servers of idols, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.
