But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord the God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel to sin.


And the king stood upon the step: and made a covenant with the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his ceremonies, with all their heart, and with all their soul, and to perform the words of this covenant, which were written in that book. And the people agreed to the covenant.


Now the first that dwelt in their possessions, and in their cities, were the Israelites, and the priests, and the Levites, and the Nathineans.


And standing up in his tribunal, he made a covenant before the Lord to walk after him, and keep his commandments, and testimonies, and justifications, with all his heart, and with all his soul, and to do the things that were written in that book which he had read.


Now then, O Lord God of Israel, fulfil to thy servant David my father, whatsoever thou hast promised him, saying: There shall not fail thee a man in my sight, to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their ways, and walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.


And I chid them, and laid my curse upon them. And I beat some of them, and shaved off their hair, and made them swear by God that they would not give their daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for their sons, nor for themselves, saying:


The porters: The children of Sellum, the children of Ater, the children of Telmon, the children of Accub, the children of Hatita, the children of Sobai: a hundred thirty-eight.


Then Esdras the priest brought the law before the multitude of men and women, and all those that could understand, in the first day of the seventh month.


And he read it plainly in the street that was before the water gate, from the morning until midday, before the men, and the women, and all those that could understand: and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book.


And the seed of the children of Israel separated themselves from every stranger: and they stood, and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.


And because of all this we ourselves make a covenant, and write it: and our princes, our Levites, and our priests sign it.


And he was mindful of his covenant: and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.


Unto the end, for the presses: a psalm of David.


The birds of the air, and the fishes of the sea that pass through the paths of the sea.


HER time is near at hand, and her days shall not be prolonged. For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose out of Israel, and will make them rest upon their own ground. And the stranger shall be joined with them, and shall adhere to the house of Jacob.


And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord: If you will not hearken to me to walk in my law which I have given to you:


And you turned to-day and did that which was right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every one to his brother: and you made a covenant in my sight, in the house upon which my name is invocated.


And I will put my spirit in the midst of you: and I will cause you to walk in my commandments, and to keep my judgments, and do them.


You shall be holy unto me, because I the Lord am holy: and I have separated you from other people, that you should be mine.


Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the precepts, and judgments.


These curses shall light upon thee. The Lord make thee a curse, and an example for all among his people. May he make thy thigh to rot: and may thy belly swell and burst asunder.


For the law was given by Moses; grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.


You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you.


Did Moses not give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law?


Who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, rejoiced: and he exhorted them all with purpose of heart to continue in the Lord.


But certain men adhering to him, did believe; among whom was also Dionysius, the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.


But do not thou give credit to them; for there lie in wait for him more than forty men of them, who have bound themselves by oath neither to eat, nor to drink, till they have killed him: and they are now ready, looking for a promise from thee.


Let love be without dissimulation. Hating that which is evil, cleaving to that which is good.


Moses commanded us a law, the inheritance of the multitude of Jacob.


And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: Hear, O Israel, the ceremonies and judgments, which I speak in your ears this day. Learn them, and fulfil them in work.


Keep therefore and do the things which the Lord God hath commanded you. You shall not go aside neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
