20 Then king Sedecias commanded that Jeremias should be committed into the entry of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread, beside broth, till all the bread in the city were spent. And Jeremias remained in the entry of the prison.

But know ye and understand, that if you put me to death, you will shed innocent blood against your own selves and against this city and the inhabitants thereof. For in truth the Lord sent me to you, to speak all these words in your hearing.


If so be they may present their supplication before the Lord, and may return every one from his wicked way: for great is the wrath and indignation which the Lord hath pronounced against this people.


Thou shalt say to them: I presented my supplication before the king that he would not command me to be carried back into the house of Jonathan, to die there.


But Jeremias remained in the entry of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken. And it came to pass that Jerusalem was taken.


And they said to Jeremias the prophet: Let our supplication fall before thee, and pray thou for us to the Lord thy God for all this remnant: for we are left but a few of many, as thy eyes do behold us.
