Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay, and thou wilt bring me into dust again.


Dost thou strive against him, because he hath not answered thee to all words?


Gird up thy loins like a man. I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.


If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? Or, who can say: Why dost thou so?


He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who hath resisted him, and hath had peace?


There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel against the Lord.


He that shall be, his name is already called: and it is known, that he is man, and cannot contend in judgment with him that is stronger than himself.


Shall the axe boast itself against him that cutteth with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him by whom it is drawn? As if a rod should lift itself up against him that lifteth it up, and a staff exalt itself, which is but wood.


This thought of yours is perverse: as if the clay should think against the potter, and the work should say to the maker thereof: Thou madest me not. Or the thing framed should say to him that fashioned it: Thou understandest not.


Woe to him that saith to his father: Why begettest thou? And to the woman: Why dost thou bring forth?


There is none that calleth upon thy name: that riseth up and taketh hold of thee: Thou hast hid thy face from us and hast crushed us in the hand of our iniquity.


And now, O Lord, thou art our father, and we are clay: and thou art our maker, and we all are the works of thy hands.


Cannot I do with you, as this potterO house of Israel saith the Lord? Behold, as clay is in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.


And thou shalt say to Joakim the king of Juda: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast burnt that volume, saying: Why hast thou written therein and said: The king of Babylon shall come speedily and shall lay waste this land and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?


I have caused thee to fall into a snare and thou art taken, O Babylon: and thou wast not aware of it. Thou art found and caught, because thou hast provoked the Lord.


Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he? All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient.
