And when he was near to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife: I know that thou art a beautiful woman:


And when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman that she was very beautiful.


An exceedingly comely maid, and a most beautiful virgin, and not known to man: and she went down to the spring, and filled her pitcher and was coming back.


And when he was asked by the men of that place, concerning his wife, he answered: She is my sister. For he was afraid to confess that she was his wife, thinking lest perhaps they would like him because of her beauty.


Now he had two daughters, the name of the elder was Lia: and the younger was called Rachel.


And Jacob being in love with her said: I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.


And having at length obtained the marriage he wished for, he preferred the love of the latter before the former, and served with him other seven years.


The Lord also remembering Rachel heard her, and opened her womb,


The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.


Neither knew he any other thing, but the bread which he ate. And Joseph was of a beautiful countenance, and comely to behold.


For, when I came out of Mesopotamia, Rachel died from me in the land of Chanaan in the very journey. And it was springtime, and I was going to Ephrata, and I buried her near the way of Ephrata, which by another name is called Bethlehem.


Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: the woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.


Thus saith the Lord: A voice was heard on high of lamentation, of mourning and weeping, of Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted for them, because they are not.


A voice in Rama was heard, lamentation and great mourning; Rachel bewailing her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.


When thou shalt depart from me this day, thou shalt find two men by the sepulchre of Rachel in the borders of Benjamin to the south. And they shall say to thee: The asses are found which thou wentest to seek; and thy father thinking no more of the asses is concerned for you, and saith: What shall I do for my son?
