That search may be made in the books of the histories of thy fathers. And thou shalt find written in the records; and shalt know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to the kings and provinces, and that wars were raised therein of old time. For which cause also the city was destroyed.


And I commanded; and search hath been made. And it is found, that this city of old time hath rebelled against kings, and seditions and wars have been raised therein.


Now therefore if it seem good to the king, let him search in the king's library, which is in Babylon, whether it hath been decreed by Cyrus the king, that the house of God in Jerusalem should be built: and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.


And they kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy; for the Lord had made them joyful, and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, that he should help their hands in the work of the house of the Lord the God of Israel.


It is decreed by me, that all they of the people of Israel, and of the priests and of the Levites in my realm, that are minded to go into Jerusalem, should go with thee.


I was the father of the poor: and the cause which I knew not, I searched out most diligently.


And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things: his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose.


It is the glory of God to conceal the word, and the glory of kings to search out the speech.


And thou shalt say to Joakim the king of Juda: Thus saith the Lord: Thou hast burnt that volume, saying: Why hast thou written therein and said: The king of Babylon shall come speedily and shall lay waste this land and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?


And Jeremias took another volume and gave it to Baruch the son of Nerias the scribe: who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the book which Joakim the king of Juda had burnt with fire. And there were added besides many more words than had been before.


And I looked, and, behold, a hand was sent to me, wherein was a book rolled up: and he spread it before me: and it was written within and without: and there were written in it lamentations and canticles and woe.


And he said to me: Son of man, eat all that thou shalt find: eat this book and go speak to the children of Israel.


And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne, a book written within and without, sealed with seven seals.
