And Nathan returned to his house. The Lord also struck the child which the wife of Urias had borne to David; and his life was despaired of.


And he said: While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept for him. For I said: Who knoweth whether the Lord may not give him to me, and the child may live?


Then the king rose up, and rent his garments: and fell upon the ground. And all his servants, that stood about him, rent their garments.


And when Achab had heard these words, he rent his garments, and put haircloth upon his flesh, and fasted and slept in sackcloth, and walked with his head cast down.


And when I had heard these words I sat down, and wept, and mourned for many days: and I fasted, and prayed before the face of the God of heaven.


I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.


And the Lord, the God of hosts, in that day shall call to weeping and to mourning: to baldness and to girding with sackcloth.


Lord, they have sought after thee in distress: in the tribulation of murmuring thy instruction was with them.


Who can tell if God will turn, and forgive: and will turn away from his fierce anger, and we shall not perish?


And he was there three days, without sight, and he did neither eat nor drink.


But Josue rent his garments, and fell flat on the ground before the ark of the Lord until the evening, both he and all the ancients of Israel: and they put dust upon their heads.
