Thy father laid a grievous yoke upon us. Now therefore do thou take off a little of the grievous service of thy father, and of his most heavy yoke, which he put upon us: and we will serve thee.


Juda and Israel were innumerable, as the sand of the sea in multitude: eating and drinking, and rejoicing.


And Juda and Israel dwelt without any fear, every one under his vine, and under his fig tree, from Dan to Bersabee, all the days of Solomon.


And king Solomon chose workmen out of all Israel: and the levy was of thirty thousand men.


And Solomon had seventy thousand to carry burdens, and eighty thousand to hew stones in the mountain:


But of the children of Israel Solomon made not any to be bondmen, but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and captains, and overseers of the chariots and horses.


And they sent for him; and he came with all Israel. And they spoke to Roboam, saying:


And he said to them: Come to me again after three days. And when the people were gone,


Now after a long time the king of Egypt died. And the children of Israel groaning cried out because of the works: and their cry went up unto God from the works.


I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance and have given them into thy hand. Thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.


For they bind heavy and insupportable burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders; but with a finger of their own they will not move them.


For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not heavy.
