28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, lest they might be defiled, but so that they might eat the Passover.

28 Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium (judgment hall, governor's palace). And it was early. They themselves did not enter the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled (become ceremonially unclean), but might be fit to eat the Passover [supper].

28 The Jewish leaders led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s palace. It was early in the morning. So that they could eat the Passover, the Jewish leaders wouldn’t enter the palace; entering the palace would have made them ritually impure.

Then the soldiers of the governor, having taken Jesus to the Praetorium, gathered the whole garrison around Him.


Then the soldiers led Him away into the courtyard, which is the Praetorium, and assembled the whole garrison.


And when it became day, the council of the elders of the people, the chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,


And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, so that they might purify themselves.


And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year.


And Simon Peter was following Jesus, as was the other disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.


Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"


"But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you wish that I should release the King of the Jews?"


Jesus answered, "You would have no authority at all against Me unless it had been given to you from above. Therefore the one who betrayed Me to you has a greater sin."


Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"


and he entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.


and he said to them, "You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to associate with or to approach a Gentile; and yet God has shown to me that I should call no man common or unclean;


Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, whose surname is Peter. He is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, beside the sea. Who arriving, will speak to you.'


saying, "You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!"


The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you indeed delivered up and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.


"For truly they were assembled against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel,
