3 Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God's] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind.

and the anxieties of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things coming in choke out the word, and it becomes fruitless.

who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you desire to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

who in the generations having gone by permitted all the Gentiles to walk in their ways.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of the own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies among themselves,

For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now you were shown mercy through their disobedience,

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

for whenever Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law unto themselves,

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Much more then, having been justified now by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts,

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to do the good, I do not find.

But what if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make known His power, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath having been prepared for destruction,

For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? And if you did indeed receive what you have, why do you boast as though you did not receive it?

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

But the Scripture has confined all under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

in which you once walked according to the age of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit which is now working in the sons of disobedience,

that you put off, concerning your former way of life, the old man which is being corrupted according to the deceitful lusts,

And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled

Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who have died, lest you be sorrowful as those who have no hope.

Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men in destruction and perdition.

For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, being deceived, being enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves after the former lusts, as you did in your ignorance;

having eyes full of adultery and unable to cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart having been trained in greediness, they are accursed children.

For when they speak haughty words of emptiness, they entice through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, those who are escaping from those who are living in error,

Because everything that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not from the Father but is from the world.

Again, a new commandment I am writing to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.
