9 But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many senseless and harmful lusts which sink men in destruction and perdition.

But the seed sown in the thorns is he who hears the word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches chokes out the word, and it becomes fruitless.


But when the young man heard the word, he went away grieved, for he had many possessions.


and said, "What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?" And they weighed out for him thirty silver coins.


"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves dig through and steal;


and the anxieties of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things coming in choke out the word, and it becomes fruitless.


So is he who accumulates treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."


For it will come as a snare on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.


But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought to acquire the gift of God through money!


that you put off, concerning your former way of life, the old man which is being corrupted according to the deceitful lusts,


knowing this: that the law is not laid down for the righteous, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for killers of fathers and killers of mothers, for murderers,


Moreover he must have a good testimony among those outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.


For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some by aspiring have strayed away from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.


Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to put their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who provides all things richly for us to enjoy,


and they regain their senses and escape out of the snare of the devil, having been captured alive by him to do his will.


teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,


And by covetousness they will exploit you with fabricated words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction will not sleep.


Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and in the error of Balaam they have rushed for profit, and have perished in the rebellion of Korah.
